What Is Bellingham Community Project (BCP)?

BCP is a small charity in Bellingham, one of the most deprived wards in Lewisham. The charity has been embedded in the local community since 1993. It works in partnership with statutory and voluntary bodies and the community to develop health/well-being and leisure projects, which meet local needs, at prices the community can afford.

The Bellingham Community Project Ltd is a registered charity. It was established by the City Parochial Foundation (now Trust for London) of which it is a subsidiary. It is run by a small voluntary Board of Directors, employing three staff.

What's On At Bellingham Community Project?

At BCP, we focus on developing the capacity and skills of the inhabitants in the area, enabling them to better identify and meet their needs.

BCP is dedicated to working with the community to improve the health and quality of life of people living in Bellingham and the surrounding areas. We believe in building healthy, happy lives for everyone.

Tea & Toast Tuesdays

In 2023, BCP set up a free social space for older adults in Bellingham. With funding from the Lee Charity of William Hatcliffe, we are able to deliver this project for another year.

We provide a relaxed session for adults over 55 with hot drinks and toast (plus your choice of condiment – jam, marmalade or marmite…) in our Community Room. Thanks to one of our lovely visitors we now have a bingo session at Tea & Toast which visitors can join in with if they link. This is also free to participate in.

We always welcome suggestions from visitors and are looking into providing additional activities in this space.

BCP would love to engage a volunteer to help coordinate this space, if that sounds like you please contact Anne at bcp@bcp.uk.net or on 07549 433963.

SEN Kids Fun Play

We have been running free monthly fun play sessions for children with special educational needs under 5’s since 2010. This has been hugely successful and was extended and expanded in 2014 to run a session for children aged 6 -11. Many of our local schools attend. The sessions run at the Bellingham Leisure and Lifestyle Centre monthly.

Partnership with Christ Church

In November 2023 BCP and Christ Church joined forces to provide Bellingham with a set of four Winter Social spaces supported by Lewisham Warm Welcomes.

In December 2023 BCP began piloting a co-location project so that their Community Project Worker divides their time between working from our office in the Leisure Centre and working down at the Christ Church Hub. This is already developing new connections and encouraging residents to visit both locations to increase their participation in the available activities.
